Episode 103 - Re-Using Our Trash
Eco Company takes to the road on Segways for this episode. And they’re out looking for stuff that has a valuable second use. First they discover a new use for used cooking oil. Who would have known restaurants would be a source for biodiesel fuels. Adam went to the source to find out more.
There is obviously a lot of trash that doesn't have a second use...or does it? Brendan went to a landfill where the trash goes 200 feet deep. Trash piles produce methane gas and this place is putting it to good use.
So then we're talking e-waste. We all like the newest phone, or the latest computer...all the newest gadgets! But what happens to the old stuff. E-waste is becoming a big problem. Jessica followed the trail to an e-waste facility to see what can be done with all of that electronic gear.
Finally, teens...as energy specialists? You bet! Jordan caught up with a group of teens trained to do energy audits at residential homes. How they learn to do that? They study up on their eco-facts and learn ways to save energy, water and MONEY for all of us. It's the kind of house call that's greening up the planet...one neighborhood at a time.
